Budapest Water Summit 2016

Budapest Water Summit 2016

The Inter-ministerial Committee of the Budapest Water Summit 2016 held its third meeting on 3rd September. The Secretariat of the National Council for Sustainable Development (NCSD) is a regular participant of these meetings.

The Budapest Water Summit 2016 wishes to ensure that water is the basis of cooperation, peace and development for all countries concerned with sustainable development rather than the cause of new global risks and conflicts in the 21st century.  To that end, participants will discuss and adopt the “Budapest Declaration” in order to present their proposals to relevant international forums. The preliminary version of the Declaration will be developed by the so-called “drafting team” set to start work in July 2016. The document is scheduled to be adopted prior to the Water Summit’s final plenary session on 30th November 2016.

The Inter-ministerial Committee provided update on professional tasks completed in association with the Budapest Water Summit 2016, presented the website, the detailed agenda and the related thematic forums of the event.  A civil, youth and women’s forum will be independently represented at the Water Summit.

Csaba Kőrösi, the head of the Directorate for Environmental Sustainability and regular participant of NCSD’s board meetings informed on key global developments affecting the organization of the Budapest Water Summit 2016.
