Study visit at Igazgyöny Foundation

NCSD continues to visit projects presenting good practices in Hungary in 2018. On January 30 2018, we visited Igazgyöngy Foundation (http://igazgyongyalapitvany.org/) in Berettyóújfalu, Biharkeresztes and Told.

The foundation has been active in one of the 33 most underprivileged small regions, in the vicinity of Berettyóújfalu since 1999. One of their main missions is talent management, for which they run an elementary art school focusing specifically on disadvantaged Roma children.

Thanks to their child-friendly approach to visual education, the foundation is very successful: the children usually win more than 500 prizes in national and international children’s art contests every year.

“Apart from our education projects, we are also engaged in field work to promote empowerment. We have come to understand that schools alone will never be able to integrate children with multiple disadvantages. Our complex programme is based on the combination of education, family care, community development and institutional cooperation. We are trying to find all the intervention points and affect them engaging the community. We work on a wide spectrum addressing problems ranging from families to settlement development. The complete model is being developed in the isolated village of Told and its various elements are already being used in 16 communities,” the website of Igazgyöngy Foundation informs.
