The National Council for Sustainable Development held its third meeting

The National Council for Sustainable Development held its third meeting in 2017 in the Parliament’s newly remodelled Delegation Room at 10 a.m., 28 September, Thursday. The meeting’s agenda included only one topic:

Discussion of the draft version of the second monitoring report on the National Framework Strategy on Sustainable Development (2015–2016).

The National Framework Strategy on Sustainable Development adopted by the Parliament in March 2013 provided the basic concept for the long term protection and development of our national resources setting out 34 strategic objectives and 77 tasks (instruments) for the period until 2024.

This biennial regular monitoring report has been designed to

  1. monitor our national resources through indicators and qualitative analysis;
  2. review social responses and actions initiated and implemented in the last two years (the Government's complete report on government actions in 2015–2016 to promote the implementation of the Framework Strategy is included in an annex);

update the public on the size of progress made in sustainability transition, which areas have improved substantially and which areas require more intense efforts.

NCSD prepared its first monitoring report on the period between 2013 and 2014 in 2015. The drafting of the second monitoring report on the progress made between 2015 and 2016 is currently under way with the final version planned to be adopted at the meeting of NCSD on 7 December 2017.

At the third meeting, NCSD’s members discussed the draft version of the monitoring report in general and in detail as well. The editing team of the report will continue to work on the draft in the next two months incorporating the questions, critical feedback and recommendations of NCSD’s members.

Before the official part of the meeting, the president of the Central Statistical Office (KSH), dr. Gabriella Vukovich presented KSH’s newly issued book on sustainable development indicators which is a key resource for the monitoring report.
