The Inter-ministerial Committee of the Budapest Water Summit 2016 held its third meeting on 3rd September. The Secretariat of the National Council for Sustainable Development (NCSD) is a regular participant of these meetings.


Modern welfare societies have created a level of material wealth – not equally for everyone – never seen before. However, one of the sources of this material abundance is often that the opportunities of future generations are depleted by the accumulation of debts, the plunder of natural resources, climate change, demographic decline and pyramid scheme-like pension systems. One of the major challenges, tasks of the early 21st century, is to become a sustainable society in which the wealth of today is not at the price of future scarcity.


After last year’s successful event, the European Sustainable Development Week will again be organized in 2016.  Hungary has again joined the event that will take place between May 29th and June 4th this year and will be coordinated by the Secretariat of the National Council for Sustainable Development. The National Council for Sustainable Development (NCSD) held its third board meeting this year in the Parliament’s Gobelin Room on 26th October 2016.Launching the meeting, Ákos Gábor Ugorn, deputy minister of state for state-owned lands presented his keynote speech on the revision and amendment of Act XXXVII of 2009 on forests, protection and management of forests. The Board Meeting then discussed the need to implement the circular economy and its possibilities and ways in Hungary also with view to proposals in the EU’s circular economy package. The presentation and the keynote speech was delivered by dr. András Rácz, deputy minister of state for environment and dr. Gábor Bartus, NCSD’s secretary.


The National Council for Sustainable Development (NCSD) held its last board meeting this year in the Parliament’s Gobelin Room on 2th October 2015.
