The National Council for Sustainable Development (NFFT) held its second meeting this year on May 30th 2019.
As the third part of NFFT’s thematic debate series, the meeting included a keynote speech on the challenges related to natural resources delivered by Martina Makai, deputy state secretary (Ministry for Innovation and Technology), titled “Social material use and the circular economy”.
The third item on the agenda was an opening address delivered by Gábor Gablini, co-chairman of the Confederation of Hungarian Employers and Industrialists, titled “Qualification strategy for a knowledge based, innovative society”.
At the meeting, NFFT adopted an action plan proposal on the protection of our natural heritage and the sustainable use of our natural resources.
On April 15th 2019, Gábor Náray-Szabó, NFFT’s co-chair signed an agreement about NFFT’s entry into the Hungarian Circular Economy Platform.
Initiated by the Business Council for Sustainable Development in Hungary (BCSDH), the Embassy of the Netherlands and the Ministry for Innovation and Technology, the platform promoting the transition to the circular economy was officially established in a ceremony on November 29th 2018.
On December 7, the National Council for Sustainable Development held its jubilant meeting in the Parliament’s Delegation Room focusing on the topic of: Sustainability as the foundation of a liveable society and competitiveness.
The meeting was chaired by NCSD’s co-chair, Gábor Náray Szabó and László Kövér, NCSD’s chairman delivered a welcome speech stressing that the establishment of the Council and its activities afterwards was and continues to be based on an agreement that spans across several parliamentary cycles and defies the traditional dichotomy between government and opposition parties. The Speaker of the Parliament highlighted that sustainability is an issue that has a fundamental and long term impact on the future of our nation and not less importantly of the entire humanity whose significance has increased in recent decades.
On November 16 2018, the new members of the National Council for Sustainable Development delegated by civil organizations were elected. The election was preceded by a month long registration period allowing Hungary’s civil organizations to officially delegate their representatives for the election.
The civil organizations could choose from three sections: educational and cultural civil organizations, civil organizations involved in social and health issues and social strata and age group civil organizations.
A total of 106 civil organizations registered for the election.
It has been over two years since the adoption of the international Sustainable Development Goals (SGD). Hungary has too prepared its Voluntary National Review on its efforts made so far to achieve the SDGs and it is now available for download in English at the following link:

NCSD once again invites civil delegate candidates
